Equality: According to Indian Men

Image
Indian men and their selectiveness when it comes to equality: Pick an one-off event and use it to demonize feminism. I bet that if men's prize is more and the running distance is the same, these men would be quiet. Like they're quiet when women are paid less than men for the same amount of work. You want to speak about women having the same level playing field as men? Introducing Gertrude Ederle and Billie Jean King . Not to mention thousands of women inventors and champions that men credited themselves for. Men's drink, beer, was also invented by women. Men these days call Gertrude Ederle "fat and ugly," and say that they can beat her record as men with no training whatsoever. To this day, men remain antsy and crusty about Billie Jean King beating Bobby Riggs.  Jade Hameister completed the polar hat trick at  14 and became the youngest person to do it. Sore men told her to go back to the kitchen and make them a sandwich. Men said that Katie Bouman did 6% of t...

Well Meaning Fans or Male Entitlement? Ft Anupama Parameswaran

Image
Men are "disappointed" with Anupama Parameswaran because of her role in Tillu Square opposite Siddhu Jonnalagada. Anupama's IG handle is inundated with men openly expressing their "heartbreak" with the movie's posters, Anupama's dressing, and the trailer which has Anupama locking lips with Siddhu.  This isn't new. The thing is, these men tend to set these actresses, in this case, Anupama Parameswaran as their girlfriend or wife. And just as they see it fit to control women in their lives, they see it fit to dictate Anu's choices - dressing, and movie roles. However, they are powerless to make Anu follow their rules so, they are expressing their male entitlement in the comment section. It's another reflection of patriarchal society. Men still look to control women who they don't even know. Actresses who started their acting career without wearing revealing dresses don't get to shed fabric on screen smoothly, with general male fans ac...

Decoding Indian Men's Bloodlust and Obsession with the Hymen

Image
Firstly, if someone who proposed to you or your prospective groom/bride asks you if you have sexual experience before marriage, don’t answer that question, and don’t accept that person for relationship/marriage. Because whatever you did before marriage is your personal thing. If someone is fixated on that, it only means they’re fixated on your past and will base your marriage’s present and future based on that past like this psychopath here. If you’re a “virgin” and expect a “virgin wife,” then, you should work to stop all men from gaining premarital sexual experience. If that’s meddling with their freedom and is impossible to do, then accept the reality that even if you decided to “save yourself” for your wife, you cannot expect everyone to do the same. Lives differ and if you can’t accept that, save other’s lives by being a “virgin” and single for life. This obsession with “deflowering, not deploration,” first night, and blood… Do you know that bleeding during sex ca...

Decoding Men on Social Media: Blocking

Image
When some guy on social media DMs tell me to block him if I won't talk to him. I don't understand. Why must a woman block you if she is uninterested? You won't respect and acknowledge her feelings and leave her alone? Asking women to block you if she doesn't want to chat with you is the same as telling women to cover up if she doesn't want to be harassed. Yup. Because you put the onus on women to protect themselves. You will keep texting until she blocks you. Then you will do the same to other women and perpetuate the cycle. Why is it a woman's responsibility to keep you away from her on social media? You won't take the responsibility as a civilized human being and back off from disturbing another person? Dei, you guys keep flirting with women in DMs despite clear disinterest, only stopping and apologizing after she creates an imaginary boyfriend just to escape from you. Mairu, a non-existent boyfriend has more power than a woman's verbalized discomfor...

Jeans (1998) from an Adult's POV

Image
Jeans is an evergreen favorite. But the movie has its share of issues one can only discern in adulthood. I don't mean to criticize this movie - it was and still is one of my favorite in terms of making, costumes, comedy, and songs. Nonetheless, I watched this classic again yesterday and felt uneasy at certain scenes. One might have overlooked the plot this movie pivots on - it's actually even considered normal in Indian society.  And I also found some positive aspects in Jeans that are worth emulating.     The original choices to play Viswanathan and Ramamurthy in Jeans were Abbas and Ajith. Their dates were fully booked so the roles went to Prashanth who worked exclusively on the project. I can't help but wonder how Jeans would've turned out if Abbas or Ajith essayed Viswanathan and Ramamurthy's roles.  Aishwarya Rai initially attempted to dub in her own voice for her Madhumita and Vaishnavi roles. Eventually, Savitha dubbed for Aishwarya. Aishwarya Rai, Miss Wor...
