Dude Roast

Image
One line review: Dude tries to please both progressive and regressive audiences and fails at both - while succeeding at being shallow. 1. A woman proposes and the man she proposes to cracks a bawdy joke. Progressive: Woman proposing - appeals to progressive audience. Regressive: Man uses a blue film reference to the kneeling position  - appeals to regressive male audience. 2. Kural proposes marriage to Agan without even asking if he has mutual feelings for her. She assumes that he loves her because he's her first cousin. I saw this in Romeo Juliet as well. How can people assume such things? It's like an arranged marriage setup - everything works presumptuously.  3. Nuptial thread isn't important - what's important is the girl's heart behind the thread - then proceeds with a dialogue that yarn can't thread a needle without the needle's consent. Honestly, it was exhausting and confusing at the same time. The film tries too hard to round up divisive audiences...

Lover Movie Review

Image
Please forgive me for the late review of this movie. Many things happened in between, and I couldn't gather my thoughts to sit and write. A lot has been said about Lover - the internet is divided between Arun (Manikandan) and Divya (Sri Gouri Priya). I am too. But let's go about it, nonetheless. When talking about equality, men often say, "Men marry unemployed women. But women won't marry unemployed men." There's a reason women won't marry an unemployed man and it's not about the money. Divya and Arun have been in a relationship for 6 years. And a considerable amount of Arun's toxicity stems from his unemployment and insecurity about Divya earning.  Yeah, that's why I'd reject an unemployed man - his insecurity would suck the life out of me and I'd end up not progressing in my career and losing my mental peace. I can absolutely take care of my husband's needs and I would respect him, his space, and fiercely defend him from shamers -...

Two Impressive Cinematic Tamil Male Characters in 2022 We Need to Know

Image
  1. Natchathiram Nagargiradhu Arjun essayed by Kalaiarasan He is an unadulterated male chauvinist and casteist. He is a typical Tamil male 90s kids who indulges in slut-shaming. After sexually harassing Rene, and the drama troupe gives him a second chance at Rene's request, his transformation is incredible. He unlearns his sexist and casteist ways and relearns. Initially, it does seem like he did it on a pro quid pro basis, to convince Rene to accept him. Later, he says a lot of things that denote self-learning that's aimed at greater good.  2. Gatta Kusthi Veera essayed by Vishnu Vishal This movie has a lot of flaws, especially the influence of Veera's booze buddies in male chauvinism and his sycophant ways at his wife after he learns that she's a wrestler. What I like is how he supports his wife later. He realizes that women have dreams in correlation of his wife. He puts himself in women's shoes and understands that the ideal dynamics in a marriage are support, ...
