Director Shankar isn't Colorist - After All, He Casted Rajinikanth in His Movies!

Director Shankar is to be blamed for this depiction of a Tamil girl in a Hindi serial, Mann Sundar - painting the Tamil girl next door with an unnatural dark skin tone.


He sowed the overreaching seed in Sivaji the Boss that North India lapped up. He simply shows the white worshipping mentality in every movie he directs.


I hear you saying that if Shankar is fixated on white skin, he wouldn’t have cast Rajinikanth because Rajinikanth and see you walking away in slo mo.


😂😂😂 Rajini has a mass appeal built from a long, illustrious career. That is why Shankar cast him and put a punch "Dravidians oda nirame karuppu." (Dark skin is the pride of Dravidians.) 😂 It was Rajini's value that was banked on and the sexist colorist bias that has been ingrained since the movie Muthu. 



"Sivappana aangal inga sila kodi undu, karuppana en mel kann vaithathenna?" (There are many fair-skinned men. But you chose me who is dark-skinned, why?) Then the fair-skinned lady goes, "The sky and sea are dark and I see you in them."


Do you realize that only women are painted like this, even in Paarthale Paravasam? Look at what K Balachander did to the already dark-skinned Vadivukarasi. Viji Chandrasekar is also painted like this in the movie. And the likes of Rajini being swooned over by fair-skinned women not only boosted Tamilnadu men's confidence but also gave them a huge sense of entitlement. Shankar leveraged all of this and flashed it outrageously in Sivaji the Boss.


Yes, there are older Tamil movies that portray abnormal dark skin in women like Gopurangal Saaivathillai. Even in Tamil serials like Bharathi Kannamma and Karthigai Deepam, fair-skinned actresses get the Nippon paint treatment. 


You may logically argue that the dark-skinned depiction of women through Sivaji the Boss had several predecessors and successors. Indhuja talked about how dark makeup was put on her for Meyyadha Maan.


But the thing is, those older movies and serials weren't dubbed in Hindi and released in North India. Sivaji the Boss has pan-Indian reach, unlike Gopurangal Saaivathillai. Though not the first time, Sivaji extensively implanted the idea to depict a Tamil girl like this when she is supposed to be disliked unlike the fair, sought-after Tamil girl, Tamilselvi played by Shriya Saran who ironically hails from Haridhwar, North India. 


What Shankar did is criminal and completely unjustified - he took two very normal-looking Tamil girls, coated them with an unnatural dark shade, and used them for rejection by the dark-skinned hero. And then, he took a fair-skinned actress from North India and cast her as a Tamil girl and the hero’s love interest. And we’ve been laughing and throwing coins at these ironic, nonsensical, outsourced, discriminatory filmmaking, letting our brains rot beyond redemption.

We negate our own Tamil/South Indian girls’ next-door look - spicily dark-skinned. Then, we import actresses from North India and even England to play Tamil girls. So, how on earth would North India respect our true Dravidian skin tone?

When we ourselves paint our Tamil girls with a greyish-dark tone as a catalyst for rejection and ridicule, how would they not follow our example? What is the use of feeling insulted when we thought “Anggavai Sanggavai rumba ponga vechita,” is funny?
