Love Today Seruppadi Review

When I saw Tamil men hailing Love Today as an awesome movie, I knew that I had watch it and give it a slipper shot review.

So, here goes...

Male Gaze

IDK, Surya, and Arya all show their bodies to the world. How would it be if their wives told them to wear dupattas? That absurdity is exactly what I felt when Uththaman used a safety pin to cover Nikki’s waist in a saree. No one should see your girlfriend's body. But you will ask for pictures from random women, say that you'd like to fuck random women in locker room GCs and shag for actresses. When questioned, it's all fantasy, nothing serious. 

The “Grave Sin” and “Just Fun” Bias

If committed women maintain a close relationship with their ex, reply to DMs from unknown men, and talk affectionately to a guy who has a romantic interest, it’s the sin of the highest order. If committed men ask for pictures from random women, say depraved things about women in GCs, don’t delete pictures when they say they did, treat actresses as shag material, say that they’re single, flirt, and catfish with multiple women, and have a fake account to do all kinds of shady things, it’s just a joke. Nope. Both did wrong and their wrongdoing should have the same gravity. If you can’t accept what Nikki did as a joke, why do you expect women to accept what Uththaman did as a joke?

The Impenitent Male

Nikki wept when Uththaman (Tha per vechirkanga paaru, Uththaman, Ucchavanthavan nu.) questioned her wrongdoings - at least she showed remorse when he slut-shamed her. When she started questioning him and slapped him (I don’t support slapping anyone.), all he did was defend his actions as just a fantasy, justify why he said he’s single to girls, and leverage every way to trivialize his wrongs.

Women are Dumb

Nikki works in the IT field but doesn’t know Restore Backup in WhatsApp.

Adengappa, the plot quickly turns the light from Uththaman’s “manmadha leelai” to being a savior after his mother’s advice. “Trust is everything,” when the guy’s BS is revealed. First, it was a joke when his stinky business is out and suddenly it ends with a not all men and all is well message.

Why are You Cheating on Good Men Like Me

Lol, personally, I’ve had married men flirt with me. In fact, I was the one who reminded them that they’re married. Even though men know that a girl is committed, they ask for her pics and flirt with her. This is not to say women are perfect. But, don’t self-certify yourself - let your behavior speak for you. This is for everyone.  

There Will Be Predators, Perverts, and Advantage Takers but You Gotta Trust

Agah, after we trust any men and those men give us bulbs like Pollachi rapists, Kaasi, and Aftab, we get, “Women like and trust men like these only”. Trust must be earned. 3 things are important for men and women = Integrity. Accountability. Authenticity. Instead of telling people to trust or not to trust, develop your character to have those 3 values.

8. Boy Bestie

These filmmakers instigate the boy bestie concept as girls cheating on their boyfriends. Then perhaps we should start to propagate that boys with girl besties are cheating on their girlfriends. Moreover, Revi and Mamakutty’s character is more of a side chick than a bestie. A side chick is a person with another person while that person is in a relationship. I don’t support Nikki maintaining side chicks.

Love Today's blockbuster success is not because it 'amazing'. The director merely capitalized on the average Indian male zeitgeist and fluffed their "boys will be boys" entitlement and ego up.
