Similarities Between Indian and Malaysian Religious Politics

 

In India, the Hindu majority have no qualms in demolishing mosques. In Malaysia, the Muslim majority government machinery has been demolishing Hindu temples since the country's independence from the British in 1957. The peak was in 2007 which triggered a Malaysian Indian Hindu political uprising.

I am always accused that I target Hindus while supporting Muslims. Nope. I target the majority oppressing the minorities. And in Malaysia, it's the inverse as far as who are the majority.

Indian Muslims are deemed disloyal to India because of their Islamic culture and practices. Malaysian Indian Hindus are deemed disloyal to Malaysia because they practice their own culture and religion instead of assimilating with the majority Malay Muslims - according to former prime minister Mahathir who ironically has Indian roots.

Muslims in India are persecuted because they're deemed the

 descendants of the Mughals and Hindus are reclaiming their land and religion. Malaysia Indian Hindus are persecuted because they're deemed migrants from India loyal to India rather than Malaysia and the Malays are reclaiming their land and religion.

Like Indian Muslims, Malaysian Indian Hindus have become one of the threads in the cultural and religious tapestry in Malaysia. I am a fifth generation Malaysian Indian and Malaysia is the only country I know. I may wear the saree and eat banana leaf rice but I was also the only one in my school who got distinction in the Malay language subject for an important public examination. I know how to make nasi lemak. The Malays make vadai and athirasam and sell them during Thaipusam and I buy kueh from the neighborhood Malay hawker stall. So, I feel weird when I'm told to go back to India.

Indian Muslims are deemed a threat to the Hindu majority - love jihad, forced conversions, and terrorism. Malaysian Indian Hindus and Malaysian Chinese are deemed a threat to the Malays - economically and Malay special rights.

What's sad is the fact that this political play used by corrupt politicians to save their asses and loot the people is very effective. My whole Malaysian Indian family and friends are pro-BJP, support Akand Bharat, and want Hindu Rashtra. They support the persecution of Indian Muslims.

When I question them, they say that there are Islamic and Christian countries and they want a Hindu nation. They cry discrimination by the political Muslim machinery in Malaysia, expressing hope to move back to the Hindu nation as Malaysians with Indian roots. I showed them how Indian PM Narendra Modi was shamed in the Ram Mandir by the Brahmin priests and the latter protesting that Modi shouldn't be allowed to inaugurate the Ram Mandir because he is from a "low caste." My family and friends are certainly not Brahmins and I told them if this is how the prime minister is treated in an aspiring "Hindu Rashtra," imagine our plight. Hindu until it comes who to do "God's work" and the "dirty work." Also, are my family and friends willing to give up our mother tongue, South Indian culture, and meat diet, embracing Hindi (monolingualism), and multiculturalism that Hindu Rashtra wants to impose?

For monolingualism and multiculturalism, Tamil and Chinese vernacular schools are under attack in Malaysia. For monolingualism and multiculturalism, Hindi imposition and the idea of a homogeneous society are being imposed on Indians in India while discriminating the minorities.

These people's sense of justice has been clouded by religious fanaticism and the belief that only their own kind will help them. You want to speak about your religion, your God, and their "time immemorial nature?" Well the Sentinelese tribe people in the Andamans are 60,000 years old, older than your religion and God. Isn't that one fact enough to prove that religions and God were made up by men and are now being used to enrich the elite few, divide, deprive, and kill people. WAKE UP and CHOOSE HUMANITY.
