When Men Want It All: Ft Romeo

I was watching Romeo Juliet yesterday.

I still remember men pointing fingers at Ishwarya (Hansika Motwani) for going after a seemingly rich guy. Once she learned that he’s broke, she leaves him - that’s it, men started to go, “That’s how these girls are.”

To date, no one talked about how Karthik (Jayam Ravi) only fell for Ishwarya for her looks. VTV Ganesh says, “Enga da pudicha itha. Tata salt mari white ah irkale.”

Ishu went for wealth. Karthik went for beauty. It’s a mutual deal. I know how hard it is to make money (coz I make money as well). Maintaining beauty is equally hard, if not more - all those manicures, pedicures, threading, skincare, diet, exercise - they’re all expensive too.

Also, note Karthik demanding Ishu to set him up with a “super figure” like herself after break up. He threatens her that he’ll ruin her engagement with a rich guy by publicizing their private pics if she doesn’t.

Why, he could have gone his way, relieved that he had cut off a toxic woman. He could have learned the lesson that beautiful girls do leverage their beauty to get wealthy men. He could’ve established another relationship, this time, not focusing on beauty but rather on stellar, independent, steadfast, principle, self-respecting, and dignified character.

But no. He devises ways to get Ishu back, that too by threatening her. This isn’t wrong for Indian men. Only women like Ishu are gold-digger b*tches. After abusing women as such, you go for women like Ishu anyway.

Like how women feel entitled to men’s money, men feel entitled to women’s beauty. But the latter is normal.

Anyway, movies these days subtly demonize wealthy men. And they show how jobless, less-rich men are desirable and how the prettiest women reject wealthy men after “realization” and come running to marry the jobless hero in the end. This has created a great sense of entitlement in the latter.

We have told women not to go for men’s money enough. We’ve advised women enough. Now it’s the time to tell men to not go for women’s looks. Start giving men the same advice they give women.
