The Women of Meiazhagan

I can't help loving Meiazhagan more every day. And I truly think the women in this film, though didn't have much screen time, they carried the story forward and made a huge impact. So, let's pay a tribute to the women of Meiazhagan!

1. Hema. She is Arul's compass who knows him well. Truly embodies what a significant other should be.💖💑

She clears Arul's self doubt. Not only does she messes around with him, she understands him well and displays what Arul lost - the childlike excitement. Her understanding of Arul's every part is key to his journey back to his native he had forgotten.

2. Bhuvana. The sister who held Arul's heartstrings and tugged him back to his hometown. No eye can stay dry as Arul puts on anklets on her feet on the wedding reception stage... 😭

Her insistence proves the love she has for her cousin. The scene was a tear jerker and drove in the message about unbreakable family bond that work both ways.

3. Latha. encapsulates the fact how parents ruin their children's lives because of their ego and blind belief that parents know what's best for their adult children.💢

She exposes the sham of Indian parents deciding what's best for their children. Speaking as a victim, having married a drunkard just because her father said so, Latha pinpoints how no one cares about her suffering, leaving her to face the consequences of her father's bad decision. This society has made her not even feel angry about it but just accept it as her fate. Her father didn't face any criticism too.

4. Nandhini. Just like Hema, Nandhini knows her husband in and out. And the thing is, Arul and Meiazhagan are good men - Hema and Nandhini are jaadiku etha moodi. 😍

Her husband's abundance rubs off her too.

5. The Flower Seller. She knows that people and their troubles are above God, traditions, and rituals. She tells Arul that it's ok if he didn't bathe to go into the temple - God won't be offended.😎

I always tell my mom that it's ok if we don't go out of our way to celebrate a festival or observe certain religious rituals - if God gets angry at our physical or monetary limits that prevents us from following certain traditions and punishes us for it, that God is not good.

6. Jhanvi. The real game-changer who encouraged her father to face his fear and open up to Meiazhagan. She is the one who relieved her dad of his guilt. A good kid raised by good parents. Baby Arulmozhi might just take after her.✊✌😇💜

Noticing the guilt in her dad’s expression, Jhanvi took the initiative and dialed Meiyazhagan’s number. She passed the phone to him, urging him gently to start the conversation. Although he was reluctant at first, their talk turned into a healing experience that gradually helped him find his footing again. Jhanvi’s role in this moment truly deserves recognition 🖤
