Animal Review & Roast (Part 2)

Animal Review & Roast (Part 2) had me crying - the revisit was painful.

I couldn't cover everything problematic with Animal in a single blog. Hence, I am including what I missed here.

I felt like cussing out when Ranvijay's grandfather doesn't dress down his grandson for having an affair in their guest house. He says "I'm not like that," and gives a feeble swat at Ranvijay. Ranvijay's cousins save Zoya's number as "Sister-in-law 2." If Vijay was a woman, by now feminists would be harangued.

Notice when Gitanjali finds out that Ranvijay had cheated on her, she asks a correct question - "I will also have an affair." To that, Ranvijay says he won't let anyone near her, commodifying her.

Instead of punishing her cheating husband or leaving him, Gitanjali asks Ranvijay to kill Zoya. When he tells her not to remarry if he doesn't return from his murderous quest to save his father, Gitanjali keeps quiet.

This scene further exonerates men who cheat, urging women to reconcile with their cheating husbands. Men were so worked by Haseen Dilruba and Thappad but celebrate Animal.

Ranvijay's disregard over his health - he smokes like a chimney while waiting for a heart donor. Trivializes his doctors' concerns (Maybe coz they're female doctors.) And smokes in the hospital after regaining consciousness. IDK, are these the traits of alpha males coz they seem inane.

IDK, men always school women (who are healthy) to not drink and smoke because it's bad for health. But when men drink and smoke, it's a sign of manliness. How to brain this?

Body shaming - the father Ranvijay loves so much says that "He's gotten fat like a pig," albeit to Ranvijay's mom. My mind voice: "Did he kill all those men and almost lost his life for this aloof guy he calls Papa?"

Body shaming their own children is one of the worst things a parent can do.

After bragging about his handmade underwear and complaining about detergent and a rash in his intimate area, Ranvijay wears another guy's underwear so he can operate the machine gun thingy. Ada ngoppala..

And the mass BGM for it... Phew.

Ranvijay kills his brother-in-law and urges his 39 year old sister to remarry, adding that he will find a suitable groom for her. But he tells Gitanjali not to remarry if he doesn't return alive. Yey...

After killing so many people, sustaining grievous bodily harm, and cheating on his wife to save his dad, Ranvijay is told that his dad has months to live. All that for this?
